John Field (July 26, 1782 – January 23, 1837) was an Irish composer and pianist. He is better known for existence a 1st composer to write nocturnes.

Biography
Innate within Dublin, Field first exposed a piano under his father, who was the violinist, and late under Tommaso Giordani. He down the road attend London where he studied under Muzio Clementi. He toured Europe each to demonstrate a pianos that Clementi processed & as a concert piano player prior to settling around Saint Petersburg in Russia where he was a popular performing artist & teacher. He died within Moscow.

Music
Field is better remembered when a 1st composer to write nocturnes, single movement pieces for piano which were not inside a fixed form (when the minuet or fugue are) and which maintained one mood throughout. These pieces greatly influenced Frederic Chopin, who went in to write Twenty-one notturno himself. Inasmuch when Field's notturno were a 1st only-movement soft character pieces, it may be seen when crucial forerunners of numerous more Romantic composers' works, among them Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt and Edvard Grieg.

Among his solo soft compositions, Field composed Xvi notturno, quaternity piano sonatas (the 1st 3 published together when his Op. Unity), also when fantasias, etudes, rondos, & sets of variations.
